Have you heard of Stephen Hawking? Stephen Hawking was born in Oxford, England on January 8, 1942. He grew up in a highly educated family. Both of his parents were very educated and attended Oxford University. His father Frank, was a medical researcher. Stephen took interest in math and science. He was called “Einstein”, because of how good he was in those subjects. Although he wanted to study math at Oxford university, he could not because he did not have a degree. He decided to study physics and chemistry instead. After graduating he went to Cambridge to get his PHD. While he was studying in Cambridge, he was diagnosed with a disease called ALS. Doctors told him he only had a few years to live. Although he was confined to a wheelchair and could not talk for much of his life, he decided to live a full and productive life. He then married Jane WIlde. He wrote many important papers on the subject and proved that black holes emit some radiation. This radiation from black holes has become known as Hawking Radiation. His most famous theory was one that proved black holes can emit radiation.
